Policies can change. Spheres is built so that even we can't access your data — because we never have it in the first place.
Your identity is a cryptographic keypair — no username, no password, no email. Only you hold your private key, which is generated on your device and stored in the platform keystore.
Messages travel through a single Cloudflare Worker relay, but its addresses are derived from secrets only the participants share — so the operator cannot work out who is talking to whom, and cannot read content. It does still see timing and approximate message size.
The plan: trust your close circle with encrypted fragments of your key via Shamir's Secret Sharing. This is designed but not built — the feature is disabled in the app.
The plan: export your network and history into a single passphrase-secured .spheres file. Passphrase encryption is disabled today; backups are written unencrypted and clearly labelled as such in the app.
Organize contacts into private circles. You decide exactly which group sees every post through multi-wrapped encryption.
The app automatically strips GPS coordinates and device IDs from media before sharing, preventing accidental location leaks.
No account registration. No phone number. No cloud storage. Just install, create a name, and start connecting with people you trust.
